OSI Standards Documents To understand and use this manual, you should be familiar with the standards
documents, listed below, that pertain to the OSI layers and service elements you are

Prerequisite Manuals Assuming that you are a programmer writing applications that use the APS
procedures, Figure 0-1 shows some other Tandem manuals that you should probably
read and suggests the order in which you should read them.
Introduction to Tandem NonStop Systems describes the application environment,
architecture, and networking of NonStop systems and explains the basic concepts,
terms, and entities in the NonStop environment.
GUARDIAN 90 Operating System Programmer’s Guide describes how to use the
Guardian 90 operating system procedure calls, including the file-system procedures.
System Procedure Calls Reference Manual gives the syntax and programming
considerations for all the Guardian 90 operating system procedure calls.
Transaction Application Language (TAL) Reference Manual describes the Transaction
Application Language (TAL), and the C Reference Manual describes the Tandem
version of the C programming language. You only need to be familiar with the
information for the programming language you are using.
