If You Configure the DEFUSER Attribute
To specify a default user ID and password, you use the DEFUSER attribute in your VFS
PROFILE configuration. If you provide a user ID (as either groupid.userid or
groupnum.usernum) and password in this attribute, remote users do not need to send
user IDs and passwords across the OSI network to access a responder process using its
address. A remote application that does not specify a user ID and password is granted
the access privileges of the default user ID. However, a remote user can supply a user ID
and password to obtain access privileges that are different from those of the default user
ID.
If you configure the DEFUSER attribute with a user ID but omit the password,
associations with responders that use this profile will succeed only if the specified user
ID has no Guardian password associated with it.
The user ID specified in the DEFUSER attribute must exist in the system’s user
identification file at the time a remote initiator, not providing its own logon ID, makes
requests of the Tandem responder.
The default user ID will not be used if a user ID or password is supplied through the
programmatic interface. For more details, see the Tandem OSI/FTAM Programming
Reference Manual.
If You Do Not Configure the DEFUSER Attribute
If you do not configure the DEFUSER attribute, all applications attempting to use the
responder process must first specify a valid Guardian user ID and password (as the
initiator identity and filestore password in the F-INITIALIZE request) before access is
allowed. This provides a security feature that allows you to control which remote users
can have access to which files on your system.
