SYSGEN
SYSGEN. The Tandem system generation program used to configure objects such as devices,
controllers, and input/output processes (IOPs) in a newly installed system or to update
the system when new software is released. Objects to be configured are defined to
SYSGEN in a special configuration file, which can then be coldloaded into the system.
The Tandem Open Systems Interconnection (OSI)
 products are not configured with
SYSGEN, but the underlying X.25 Access Method (X25AM) and Tandem LAN Access
Method (TLAM) IOPs are.
Tandem LAN Access Method (TLAM). For D4x series systems only. A Tandem product
that implements, for local area networks (LANs), the services of the Data Link Layer
and layers below. Replaced by the Port Access Method (PAM) subsystem for G-series
releases.
Tandem NonStop TCP/IP. A communications subsystem that provides access to a network,
allowing you to use the file-transfer protocol (FTP) to transfer files to your Tandem
system and run Web-based servers through facilities such as Simple Mail Transfer
Protocol (SMTP). NonStop TCP/IP also provides multicast support, which enables
Himalaya S-series servers to initiate and receive messages intended for multiple Internet
Protocol (IP) addresses associated with Internet subscriptions. See also Transmission
Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Tandem OSI/AS. A communications subsystem that provides the services of the Open
Systems Interconnection (OSI) Session Layer and Presentation Layer and the called
address component of the Application Layer, allowing Tandem applications to
communicate with other applications in a multivendor environment.
Tandem OSI/FTAM. A communications subsystem that provides file-transfer, access, and
management (FTAM) functions across a heterogeneous network, in conformance with
the International Standards Organization (ISO) FTAM standard. Tandem OSI/FTAM
supports the transfer of files between Himalaya S-series servers and other kinds of
computers. It also lets users on the Himalaya S-series server manage and operate on
remote files and lets users on other kinds of systems manage and operate on files on the
Himalaya S-series server.
Tandem OSI/TS. A communications subsystem that provides Open Systems Interconnection
(OSI) layer 4 (Transport Layer) services to Tandem OSI/AS applications or to user
applications needing direct access to OSI Transport Layer services. Tandem OSI/TS
implements the Connectionless Network Layer Protocol (CLNP) for use over local area
networks (LANs) or (optionally) X.25 packet-switched data networks (PSDNs). It
provides a uniform interface to applications in wide area network (WAN) and LAN
environments, using network and data-link services provided by ViewPoint
 for
D-series systems or by the Port Access Method (PAM) for G-series systems.
token. (1) An attribute of a Session Layer
connection, dynamically assigned to one session
service user at a time, that confers the exclusive right to perform a given function. (2) In
Distributed Systems Management (DSM)
terms, a distinguishable unit in a Subsystem
Programmatic Interface (SPI) message.
transfer syntax. In the Presentation Layer
, the definition of the exact bit patterns to be used
to convey specified kinds of information in a communication.
