SCF Online Help
SCF Online Help
SCF provides online support when you use the HELP command described in the
Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) Reference Manual (for D-series releases) or the SCF
Reference Manual for G-Series Releases. If the HELP command alone is entered, SCF
responds with a menu that guides you through the available help options. Simply select
from the options displayed in the menu for the information you need.
Using this menu-mode help facility, you can obtain general information about SCF basic
components, such as attribute specifications, character strings, commands, file names,
integers, and so on.
In addition to getting general SCF information, you can obtain information specific to
your particular subsystem.
To obtain information on the APLMGR subsystem syntax of object types and the
commands that apply to them, you enter the following command:
HELP OSIAPLMG [ command ] [ object-type ]
To obtain information on the FTAM subsystem syntax of object types and the commands
that apply to them, you enter the following command:
HELP OSIFTAM [ command ] [ object-type ]
SCF Error Messages
SCF displays an error message when it cannot complete the requested action. This
happens when the command is entered incorrectly or is not appropriate for some reason
(for example, the target object cannot be found or is not in the required state, or the user
does not have a proper user ID to perform a sensitive command).
Subsystem Identifier
Error messages for SCF commands sent to Tandem FTAM processes can originate from
the APLMGR subsystem, from the FTAM subsystem, from SCF, or from SCP. Each
error message is preceded by the name of the subsystem that returns the error; parsing
errors do not include a subsystem identifier. All errors returned by the APLMGR
subsystem are identified by the string OSIAPLMG at the beginning of the error
message; all errors returned by the FTAM subsystem are identified by the string
OSIFTAM; errors returned by SCF are identified by the string SCF; and errors returned
by SCP are identified by the string SCP.
