Retrieving Configuration Information
Retrieving Configuration Information
The ability to retrieve, view, and interpret information is vital to managing any
installation. Management interfaces such as SCF provide you with the tools necessary to
perform these important tasks. Information such as the number of initiator and responder
processes running, object names, and object configuration is necessary to make
management decisions that affect your FTAM installation.
Listing Processes Configured and Running
You can retrieve information concerning the number of configured Tandem FTAM
initiator and responder processes and how many of those processes are actually running.
If the system isn’t servicing requests as quickly as it should, you can view this
information and analyze it for any necessary changes.
The SCF STATUS SUBSYS command returns the number of initiator and responder
processes that are configured, as well as the number of processes of each type that are
running. Note the following example for issuing this command:
STATUS SUBSYS $AMGR
This command displays the following:
This display shows that for $AMGR there are two initiator (FTAMI) processes
configured, and both processes are started. The same is true for the responder (FTAMR)
processes. View this display regularly in your management routine to know how many
processes are configured and running in your installation.
You can view additional status information by issuing this command with the DETAIL
option. For more information, see Displaying Subsystem Status
on page 5-2.
Displaying Object Names
When managing an installation, you often need to provide the name of the APLMGR, an
initiator or responder process, or a subdevice in a command line. If you do not know the
names of these entities, the SCF NAMES command provides names associated with the
object you specify.
All Objects Controllable by a Process
You can use the NAMES null command (that is, the NAMES command with the object
type omitted) to display all object names and types that are controllable by the process
you specify. The process can be the APLMGR process or an FTAM initiator or
responder process.
