Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) TRACE Command and PTrace
Utility
The PTrace (print trace) utility allows you to look at trace data generated by the SCF
TRACE command. The TRACE command provides a log of message traffic between the
various processes in your system; PTrace shows you the contents of these messages,
including the types and contents of protocol data units (PDUs).
TRACE and PTrace are most useful when an FTAM association has been established.
Problems that can be detected using TRACE and PTrace include interoperability
problems and various application protocol problems such as invalid functional units
selected, bad document types, inconsistent service classes, and incorrect processing
mode.
To use PTrace, you must first collect trace data for the APLMGR and FTAM processes
(and for the underlying TAPS, TSP, and NSP processes as well); then you can use
PTrace to view the results. Follow the process activity and locate exactly where a
problem occurs by examining its input and output.
