System Problems
System Problems
The operation of Tandem FTAM and your FTAM application can be affected by system
problems unrelated to the FTAM software or your application or configuration: for
example, problems with the Tandem NonStop Kernel operating system, processor
failures, communications-line problems, or problems in the disk device used for the
virtual filestore (VFS).
These problems can be reported to you in a number of ways. Event messages generated
by the APLMGR, FTAM, and underlying subsystems can indicate processor failures,
process failures, or unavailability of system resources such as LCBs. Many system
problems are seen as file-system errors, which are reported in several different ways: in
errors returned to a Tandem FTAM application, in event messages generated by Tandem
FTAM and underlying processes, in SCF error messages reporting errors occurring when
you run your configuration file, and in errors from underlying system components.
Capacity and Performance Problems
Many capacity and performance problems are indicated by the appearance of file-system
errors reported through your Tandem FTAM application, in event messages, in SCF
error messages, or in errors from underlying system components.
SCF commands can provide information to help you locate the source of such problems.
Section 5, Monitoring FTAM Performance
, provides more detail on the use of SCF
commands for this purpose.
Tandem Software Internal Errors
If internal errors in Tandem software occur while you are running your FTAM
applications, these errors could be reported through certain event messages, errors, or
diagnostic messages returned to your application or through SCF error messages. The
Tandem manuals describing these messages indicate that the messages signal a Tandem
internal error for which you need to seek additional help.
If you receive one of these messages, or if you cannot otherwise resolve a problem you
are having with Tandem FTAM, see Getting Help
on page 6-21.
