Security Considerations
Security Considerations
Logon and disk-file access security on Tandem systems is enforced by the operating
system, and by the Safeguard security software, if used. Section 3, Planning, Installing,
and Configuring Tandem FTAM, describes how you can control access to a Tandem
FTAM responder process and its associated file storage.
Tandem data communications subsystems are protected from unauthorized configuration
changes by the designation of sensitive and nonsensitive SCF commands. Section 2,
FTAM Management Environment, discusses sensitive and nonsensitive commands for
Tandem FTAM.
Fault Tolerance
You can configure Tandem FTAM to provide limited fault tolerance. Specifically, you
can run processes of the FTAM subsystem—FTAM initiator and responder processes—
as NonStop process pairs using the Subsystem Control Facility (SCF) management
interface. You can run the APLMGR process as a NonStop process pair when you create
the APLMGR process. Running a process as a NonStop process pair allows a backup
process to take over if a failure occurs that causes the primary process to fail.
If a primary process fails, OSI/AS terminates affected must reestablish these
associations. In addition, files being written when the primary process failed may be left
in an indeterminate state. If this condition occurs, the application processes are notified.
