Process Architecture Considerations
Each APLMGR subsystem, consisting of an APLMGR process and its MIB, uses the
services of a single OSI/AS subsystem: that is, a single OSI manager process, its OSI
manager MIB, and the associated TAPS, TSP, and NSP processes. You can, however, run
multiple APLMGR subsystems on a single Tandem NonStop system; these can either
share the same OSI/AS subsystem or be served by separate OSI/AS subsystems.
A single OSI/AS subsystem can manage multiple TAPS, TSP, and NSP processes, and
can manage communications using multiple local and remote OSI addresses. In
addition, you can run multiple OSI/AS subsystems and multiple FTAM subsystems on a
single Tandem NonStop system.
Depending on the workload at your installation, you might be able to increase FTAM
system performance by adding APLMGR subsystems, initiator or responder processes,
OSI/AS subsystems, or TAPS, TSP, or NSP processes. There is generally a trade-off
between performance and ease of manageability.
The easiest-to-manage configuration consists of one APLMGR process supporting one
initiator and/or one responder, and one OSI/AS subsystem, as shown in Figure 3-1
.
