OSI/FTAM Programming Guide
HP NonStop OSI/FTAM Programming Guide—528612-001
ix
About This Manual
This guide is a companion to the OSI/FTAM Programming Reference Manual and
provides background information for writing application programs using HP NonStop™
OSI/File Transfer, Access, and Management (FTAM) application services. This manual
has the following objectives:
•
Introduce NonStop OSI/FTAM
•
Provide a general overview of the FTAM concepts, services, functional units,
service classes, and attributes defined by the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) in the ISO 8571 standard
•
Explain important concepts pertaining to the NonStop OSI/FTAM implementation
•
Describe some sequences of procedure calls you can use to perform common
FTAM programming operations
•
Introduce the tools you can use to manage NonStop OSI/FTAM, and briefly
describe some management tasks and considerations
Intended Audience
This manual is designed to meet the needs of application programmers who will design
and develop applications using the NonStop FTAM initiator—applications that will run
on an HP NonStop system and operate on files elsewhere in an OSI network. The
manual presumes that you are familiar with the ISO FTAM specification and FTAM
protocol, with fundamental programming concepts, and with either the C or the TAL
programming language. An overview of FTAM concepts is provided to refresh the
memories of readers who have not recently read the ISO specification.
How to Use This Manual
This manual is divided into six sections:
Section Title This section...
1 Introduction to NonStop
OSI/FTAM
Provides a general introduction to FTAM for
programmers planning FTAM applications to
run on HP NonStop systems.
2 ISO FTAM Concepts
Serves as a review of basic FTAM concepts
for programmers.
3 NonStop FTAM Programming
Describes programming concepts important
to programmers developing FTAM
applications to run on NonStop systems.
