ISO-Defined FTAM Diagnostic Messages
Table 3-5. FTAM Diagnostic Message Contents
Information Type Description
Error Type Indicates whether the error is informative, permanent, or
transient:
•
An informative error does not require recovery and does
not affect the current state of the operation being
attempted; it provides information to qualify a successful
action.
•
A permanent error occurs every time the sequence of
events is repeated and implies the failure of at least the
present operation being performed.
•
A transient error might not recur if the sequence is
repeated, but does imply the failure of the operation
being performed.
Error Identifier Identifies an error by number. For a list of message groups, see
Table 3-6
on page 3-43, and for a list of all ISO FTAM diagnostic
messages, see the OSI/FTAM Programming Reference Manual.
Error Observer Identifies the type of entity that detected the error. See list in
Table 3-7
on page 3-44.
Error Source Identifies the type of entity that caused the error. See list in
Table 3-7
on page 3-44.
Suggested Delay Suggests a delay before recovery from a transient error is
attempted. The value is an integer x, which proposes a delay time
of 2 to power x seconds. Optional field within the diagnostic
element.
Further Details Provides an optional text message containing additional details
on the cause of the error. It can include unstandardized concepts
relating to the local system environment of the filestore provider
(responder). Optional field within the diagnostic element. For
NonStop FTAM, this message can be no more than 256
characters.
