Figure i on page -xii shows how the manual you are now reading is related to other HP
manuals. The flowchart, read from the top down, indicates the order in which you might
read the manuals. Manuals connected to this manual with a vertical brace provide
additional support for FTAM programming, which you might not immediately need. HP
suggests starting with the OSI/FTAM Programming Guide. After you have read through
the guide, you will have a better idea of the information you might need from the
following manuals:
Guardian Programmer’s Guide describes how to use the HP NonStop operating
system procedure calls, including the file-system procedures.
TAL Reference Manual describes how to use the Transaction Application
Language (TAL), and the C/C++ Programmer's Guide describes the NonStop
version of the C programming language. You need to be familiar only with the
information for the programming language you are using.
After reading this manual, and probably also occasionally while you are reading it, you
will need the following manuals, which provide the reference information you need to
write your application:
OSI/FTAM Programming Reference Manual provides detailed information about
each of the procedures in the FTAM API, detailed descriptions of the error
messages your application can receive, an annotated list of the predefined data
structures you will use in your FTAM application, and information about the
hardware and software environment required for running NonStop FTAM.
Guardian Procedure Calls Reference Manual gives the syntax and programming
considerations for all HP NonStop operating system procedure calls.
ENSCRIBE Programmer’s Guide provides information about the Guardian file
system. You will need this information when your FTAM application will transfer
information to or from files on the NonStop system.
The following manuals are also likely to be of interest:
SCF Reference Manual for Tandem FTAM and APLMGR describes how to use
SCF commands to configure, monitor, and control FTAM.
OSI/FTAM Configuration and Management Manual provides task-oriented
information necessary for the installation and management of NonStop FTAM
services including a discussion of the configuration and control of the FTAM
initiator and responder processes and the associated APLMGR process. This
manual includes information on monitoring and adjusting your subsystem to
optimize performance and on diagnosing and fixing problems.
OSI/AS Programming Manual describes the application, presentation, and session
(APS) procedures, which enable application programs to establish and use OSI
connections using the Session Layer, the Presentation Layer, and the Association
