FTAM External Services
ISO defines two levels of FTAM services: external services and internal services. In
addition to the functions provided by the external services, the internal services provide
services used for error recovery, checkpointing, and restarting. Because NonStop
FTAM does not implement error recovery, checkpointing, or restarting, this manual
addresses only the external services. For details on internal services, refer to ISO
8571-3.
Table 2-1 on page 2-7 lists FTAM external services. It lists each service, the primitive
name or names associated with that service, a notation of whether the service is
confirmed or not, and a description of the function of the service. It also refers to the
FTAM regime within which the service is valid; a regime is a major phase of operation,
such as file-open or data-transfer. The concept of regimes is described in more detail
immediately after the table.
NonStop FTAM implements all the services listed in Table 2-1 on page 2-7.
