MTA (Message Transfer Agent) Objects
Examples of Commands for the null Object
The following examples show how you can use the null object to seek information
about your subsystem:
ASSUME == resets any previously set ASSUME command
NAMES $ZMHS
VERSION $ZMHS
Notice that commands for the null object—unlike those for all other OSI/MHS objects—
do not specify the object type before the object name.
MTA (Message Transfer Agent) Objects
An OSI/MHS subsystem has the functions of a message transfer agent (MTA) in an
X.400 network, which almost certainly includes other X.400 MTAs and probably other
OSI/MHS subsystems.
Each MTA in the MHS must communicate with the others, either directly or indirectly.
When you configure an OSI/MHS subsystem, you must identify its adjacent MTAs and
the routes to various destinations through those MTAs. This mechanism allows the
subsystem to pass messages directly to the adjacent MTAs and, through them, to their
users and to more distant MTAs.
MTA objects represent the MTAs adjacent to an OSI/MHS subsystem. Using the MTA
object type, you can:
Add, delete, and alter the object definition that this OSI/MHS subsystem has for an
adjacent MTA. (These actions do not affect the MTA itself.)
Determine the attribute values that describe a particular adjacent MTA to this
subsystem: for example, its throughput characteristics, the abstract syntax and
transfer protocol it supports, and the addresses and passwords to be used in
associations with it.
Determine the names of some or all MTAs adjacent to this subsystem.
Define the OSI addresses that define the links between this MTA and each
adjacent MTA.
Identify all ROUTE objects subordinate to a particular adjacent MTA.
MTA Object States
MTA objects have a summary state of DEFINED only. MTA objects merely represent
other MTAs, whose detailed workings are unknown to the local MTA.
Naming MTA Objects
An MTA object name has the form:
