Manageability
OSI/MHS is fully integrated with DSM. You can manage it from ViewPoint and see
events reported through the Event Management Service (EMS). You can manage a
network of distributed systems from one location. OSI/MHS itself provides extensive
data for accounting and message tracking. You can use EMS to gather billing data and
configure alternate collectors to separate OSI/MHS events from other events, or
accounting events from events that report problems.
Summary
Planning your OSI/MHS subsystem is a complex task. From the high-level view of the
network topology, to the smallest details of link-retry times, you must consider all
aspects of your unique implementation.
This section has provided guidelines to help you get started in your planning task.
Section 5, Configuring Your OSI/MHS Subsystem, carries this process further by
applying some of the planning considerations described here to a working
configuration example. Appendix B, Configuration Checklists, contains checklists that
you can use as worksheets when planning and configuring your system.
