Upgrading from D20 or D21 to D22 or D41
Running the OSI/MHS installation procedure for a D22 or D41 upgrade is very similar
to running it for a new installation. The significant differences are as follows:
There is probably an installation file on your system (although if not, you can create
one).
You may want to choose different options in the installation file and installation
menu.
The MS databases must be converted to a new format.
The structure of the MS database tables (which are SQL tables) has changed.
Additionally, there have been internal changes to O/R name storage and PDU
references. These changes can markedly improve the performance of your
OSI/MHS subsystem.
However, the MS database conversion can cause installation to take longer than
usual. The out-of-service time depends on the number of MS groups and APPLs
you have. If you wish to avoid a loss of service, you can upgrade your OSI/MHS
subsystem in two stages. The two-stage upgrade lets you install and use part of
your OSI/MHS subsystem while the MS database conversion is taking place.
The ROUTE databases must also be converted to a new format.
A new alternate-key file has been added to the ROUTE databases. The new file is
located in the same volume as the ROUTE files (OSIMHS_ROUTE_FILENAME)
and is secured as specified by OSIMHS_FILE_SECURITY. The ROUTE database
conversion does not require a significant amount of time.
Upgrading from D20 or D21 to D41
For migration to the D41 OSI/MHS version from the D20 or D21 OSI/MHS versions,
observe the following considerations.
The internal structure of the configuration database and the table structures of the MS
databases have changed. This change took place as part of the D22 version. The
MHSMGR handles all necessary configuration database conversion the first time you
install and bring up the D41 version of OSI/MHS. This conversion is transparent to
you.
The MS databases are converted to the D22 database format used in the D41 version
when you run the MHSINST installation program. If you have a large number of MSs
or a large number of APPLs in each MS, the database conversion may cause this
installation to take longer than previous installations.
Note. You cannot upgrade a C31 OSI/MHS database directly to RVU D22 or RVU D41. You
must first upgrade the C31 database to D20; then you can upgrade the database to D22 or
D41 as described here.
