Specifying MHS Manager Startup Commands
Parameters for the PARAM Command
BACKUPCPU
Specifies the backup CPU number. A value of -1 indicates that no backup is
initiated for the MHS manager process. It is recommended that you run the
MHSMGR process as a NonStop process; to do so, you need to specify a backup
CPU.
COLLECTOR
Identifies the event collector to receive event messages other than accounting
event messages. If you omit the COLLECTOR parameter, the collector named $0
on the local node is used.
COLLECTOR-1
Identifies the alternate event collector to be used as the accounting collector. If
you omit this parameter or give it no arguments, output to this location is written to
the primary collector, as specified by the COLLECTOR parameter (which defaults
to $0). If you specify $0 as the COLLECTOR-1 parameter, or it defaults to $0, the
accounting events are written to the primary collector, with all the other events that
are written to $0. This is generally not recommended for large configurations, as
Note. The home terminal is routinely opened by several processes, but there is a system-level
constraint on the number of opens of the home terminal. If that number is exceeded, confusing
errors or a drastic performance degradation will result. To avoid this condition, declare a spool
file or a device other than the home terminal as the destination for messages from the various
processes. (One common approach is to use a process as a virtual home terminal.) Do not
declare a dynamic device as the destination; use a permanently configured logical device.
Some possible options are a static Telnet window, an asynchronous terminal configured as a
logical device, or an HP NonStop
Virtual Hometerm Subsystem (VHS).
If the home terminal (or virtual home terminal) becomes unavailable, problems arise during
restart or recovery of a group. OSI/MHS reports event message 3 with PROCESS_CREATE_
error 8, 14. To remedy the problem, restart the home terminal device or process with the same
name previously assigned to it.
Argument: an integer from -1 through 15
Default: -1 (no backup)
Note. The BACKUPCPU parameter works differently when specified in the command line.
When you specify BACKUPCPU in the command line, you must also specify an argument
because the defaulting rules are different from when you specify BACKUPCPU as a
PARAM command parameter.
Argument: empty or name of an EMS collector
Default: $0
Argument: empty or name of an EMS collector
Default: same as primary collector
