E Routing in OSI/MHS
OSI/MHS Routing Principles
OSI/MHS gives you many options for determining how messages are routed through
your network. These routing options are consistent with general rules and guidelines
defined by implementors’ groups and standards bodies. No group defines absolute
rules for routing, and existing guidelines are not very specific.
Here are some terms related to routing:
•
A route is a specific path through a message handling system.
•
Routing is the action of selecting or determining the route.
•
Intradomain routing is routing within a domain.
•
Interdomain routing is routing between domains.
Figure E-1 illustrates part of a messaging system. It consists of many MTAs in the
same domain, either private or administrative, across two countries.
