Installing the RDF Subsystem
Installing the RDF Subsystem
RDF must be installed on both the primary and backup HP NonStop™ systems.
HP distributes RDF/IMP and RDF/IMPX software on an independent product release
compact disk (CD). The Readme file on the CD gives complete instruction on how to
install these product, as does the latest version of the Compaq NonStop™ RDF/IMP
and IMPX System Management Manual in the Independent Product TIM collection.
Setting Up OSI/MHS on a Backup System to
Provide RDF Disaster Recovery
Perform the following steps on the primary and backup NonStop systems to create an
RDF disaster recovery database for OSI/MHS.
1. On the backup system, run MHSINST system to create a complete
OSIMHS_SUBVOL. Make sure that the Message Store (MS) is compiled through
SQL, but that no new databases are created.
2. On the primary system, perform an orderly shutdown of the OSI/MHS subsystem.
3. Make sure that all OSI/MHS subsystem database files are closed before you
attempt to copy the OSI/MHS database to the backup system.
4. Make sure that sufficient bandwidth exists for the EXPAND connection, See
“Preparing the RDF Environment” in the Compaq NonStop™ RDF/IMP and IMPX
System Management Manual.
5. On the backup system, make sure that TMF is started and that TMF is protecting
the volumes in which you plan to place the OSI/MHS database files.
6. From the primary system, copy the OSI/MHS database to the backup system. You
can use the File Utility Program (FUP) or BACKUP and RESTORE.
The volume name on the backup system need not be the same as the one on the
primary system, but the subvolumes names must be identical on both systems.
7. If any MS-groups have been configured in the OSI/MHS subsystem, create an
individual. Catalog on the backup system for each MS-groups’s MS subvolume
name. Use the SQLCI Create Catalog command to create
SQLCI Create Catalog MS-subvol
MS-subvol is the name of the Message Store SQL database location. The name
of the location need not not include a system name.
