OSI/MHS Objects
Figure 2-4 shows the hierarchy of the object types that OSI/MHS supports. The lines
indicate that each object type is influenced by the attributes of the object type higher
up in the hierarchy. (The null object type is not part of this hierarchy.)
Besides controlling OSI/MHS subsystem objects, you can inquire about them. SCF
commands such as INFO, STATS, STATUS, and TRACE allow you to gather
information that you can use to analyze OSI/MHS operations and configuration.
Hierarchy of OSI/MHS Object Types
The OSI/MHS object types can be thought of as arranged in a hierarchical structure, as
illustrated in Figure 2-4.
The null object type (not shown in the figure) is the most inclusive type. It is used to
obtain information about all the other objects in a subsystem, including SUBSYS and
MON (the MHS manager process). A null object has no attributes that the other
objects can inherit.
The MON (monitor) object type is next in the hierarchy. The MON object represents
the MHS manager process—the first OSI/MHS process created, and the one that
controls all the others—so only one instance of this object type can exist in each
OSI/MHS subsystem. But neither the MON object nor the SUBSYS object is directly
subordinate to the other. A MON object neither inherits attributes from, nor passes
attributes to, any other object.
The SUBSYS (subsystem) object type is connected by solid lines in Figure 2-4 to all
object types except null and MON. All other objects except null are parts of the
subsystem, and all other objects except null and MON inherit attributes from SUBSYS.
The SUBSYS object is a category that includes all subsystem processes except the
MHS manager process.
CLASS, GROUP, and PROCESS are successively less-inclusive object types. An
OSI/MHS subsystem can include as many as five classes; each class includes one or
