X.400 Gateways
X.400 access allows proprietary systems to exchange messages with the global MHS
(Figure C-4). They can also exchange messages with other proprietary systems that
access the MHS.
An X.400 gateway performs two functions:
Translating messages
Transferring messages
The gateway provides the means to translate messages between proprietary format and a
functionally equivalent X.400 form. It also transfers messages between the proprietary
system and the X.400 MTA.
