specific tasks. Look at the description of the task you wish to perform in Section 1, and
you will find a list of manuals that support the task. The list below includes only
manuals applicable to a large range of tasks. These manuals are not included in the task-
specific lists later in this section.
Manuals
The following manuals apply to many possible uses of NonStop systems:

Introduction to Compaq NonStop Systems presents major architectural concepts of
NonStop systems and the Compaq NonStop Kernel.

Guardian Operating System User’s Guide provides basic information about the
programs and utilities that are used most often by general system or application
users.

Guide to System Operations Tasks introduces the major tasks involved in managing
a NonStop system, regardless of configuration.

Guardian Operating System Programmer’s Guide describes how to use operating
system procedure calls, including the file-system procedures.
•
Guardian Procedure Calls Reference Manual gives the syntax and programming
considerations for all the operating system procedure calls.
Figure i represents the set of manuals that describes the Compaq Open Systems
Interconnection/Message Handling System (OSI/MHS) and indicates, in general, the
type of information each manual contains.
Note. In this manual, the term “NonStop system” refers to a computer running the Compaq
NonStop Kernel. The term “Integrity Series system” refers to a computer running the NonStop-
UX operating system.
