Standards and Recommendations
•

decisions and policies for NonStop systems (five-day lecture/lab).
•
C Programming on the Guardian Platform is an introduction to writing C programs
for NonStop systems (three-day lecture/lab).
•
TAL Programming teaches the student how to write applications using the Compaq
Application Language (eight-day lecture/lab).
Standards and Recommendations
To supplement the manuals, most users will want to have some of the applicable ISO
standards, CCITT Recommendations, and X.400 Application Program Interface
Association (XAPIA) specifications available for reference. The documents you need
depend on the tasks you will perform and on the network configuration. For instance,
management tasks demand more understanding of the OSI lower layers than do
programming tasks. Also, in some cases, there are textbooks or courses that cover the
same subject matter: you will not necessarily have to study the standards themselves.
Tables i and ii list standards, recommendations, and specifications you might want to
obtain. They are not prerequisites for this manual; in fact, this manual can help you
decide which documents you need.
The numbers in the first two columns of each table identify the current versions of all
documents: the 1988 CCITT service definitions, which OSI/MHS supports.
