Compaq Messaging Products
There are several categories of X.400 and related messaging products you can use with
Compaq systems:
The OSI/MHS product family is the Compaq implementation of the 1988 X.400
Recommendations. It runs on Compaq NonStop systems and provides the services
of an MTA using the P1 protocol. It supports local and remote UAs using the P7
protocol and includes a standards-based programming interface for developing
gateway applications.
The NonStop Directory Services (NSDS) product family is the Compaq
implementation of 1988 X.500 Recommendations, and it includes the simplified
access control feature of 1993 X.500 Recommendations. X.500 defines a means to
distribute a database across multiple systems (or even multiple organizations). The
database can store a variety of information, including X.400 addresses. NSDS runs
on a Compaq NonStop system, and it can be used independently or in conjunction
with OSI/MHS.
Transfer is the Compaq messaging system. It includes both electronic mail
(PS Mail) and an interface for developing custom messaging applications. It also
