Building Your Message Handling System

What You Need to Know
The Transfer X400 gateway performs a simple mapping between Transfer and X.400
names. (It maps the name of the Transfer correspondent to the surname field of an
X.400 name, and it maps the Compaq system name to the organization field of an X.400
name.) If your network requires a different mapping, you can tailor a server—called an
XDIR server—to your Transfer environment. Compaq provides a sample XDIR server
to perform address mapping and special message-handling functions; you can find that
server on the Transfer distribution subvolume (DSV).
What You Need to Know
What you need to know to perform this task depends on the kind of Transfer application
you wish to integrate and on whether you will simply use an application or will perform
administrative or management functions.
To Set Up a Configuration Allowing PS Mail to Use an X.400
Network
To integrate your PS Mail system with an X.400 network, you must know how to
perform the following functions:
•
Set up your OSI/MHS environment on the NonStop system.
•
Add the Transfer X400 gateway to your Transfer configuration; alter the Transfer
configurations on other nodes to point to the gateway for X.400 messages.
•
Add the Transfer X400 gateway to your MHS configuration; decide whether MHS
or the gateway should validate messages and respond to probes.
•
Specify the names of X.400 recipients.
•
Manage the processes of the X.400 gateway.
You must also understand how the gateway translates between X.400 names and
Transfer names, to determine whether you need to customize that function in your
gateway.
To Use PS Mail Across an X.400 Network
Most PS Mail users need to know only how to specify the names of X.400 recipients
and look up their own X.400 names (to supply to other users on the X.400 network). In
fact, if an administrator sets up distribution lists to represent X.400 names, PS Mail
users need not know how to specify those names at all.
To Integrate Your Own Transfer Applications
To integrate your own Transfer applications with an X.400 network, you must know
how to set up a configuration (as described above for integrating PS Mail) and how to
perform the following additional functions:
•
Encode and send X.400 messages using the Transfer programmatic interface (if the
application requires specific X.400 services).
