What You Need to Know
To integrate a directory service, you need to be familiar with the following topics:

The C programming language (to develop applications that access the directory
through XDS). You may also need to review fundamental NonStop programming
concepts, including how to write fault-tolerant applications.
•
Concepts of X.500 technology, including the basic goals of X.500 and key
terminology.
•
The technical features of your directory service, including information about
directory schema.
Where to Look
In addition to manuals and educational materials from Compaq, you are likely to need
information of the following types:
•
Policy statements from your own company, from networking service providers with
whom you will connect, and from government or international organizations whose
rules you must follow
•
Copies of the CCITT X.500 series of Recommendations
