What You Need to Know
What You Need to Know
The background you need to write or integrate an EDI application with OSI/MHS falls
into two categories:
Background on the use of application programming interfaces (such as the GPI and
the P7 API) and their underlying services
Understanding of the X.400 and EDI standards and implementors’ agreements with
which your application will comply
For more details on the programming interfaces and underlying services, see the
descriptions of “Writing and Integrating Your Own Messaging System,” “Writing or
Integrating a Remote User Agent” and “Writing and Integrating a Local User Agent,” in
this section.
To decide whether your application is best suited to X.400, to FTAM, or to a
combination, you should also investigate the ISO FTAM standard and the manuals that
describe Compaq OSI/FTAM.
Where to Look
The selection of Compaq manuals and other materials you will need depends on the
options you select for implementing your application. See the description, in this
section, of the option or options that interest you.
In addition to manuals and educational materials from Compaq, you are likely to need
information of the following types:
Policy statements from your own company, from networking service providers with
whose networks yours must communicate, and from government or international
organizations whose rules you must follow.
