Summary States Supported by OSI/MHS
Table 1-3. OSI/MHS Summary States
State Definition
DEFINED The object is known (defined) to the subsystem. The object is unconfigured
and has no link established to or from it.
STARTING The object is being initialized and is attempting to start.
STARTED The object is initialized and ready for normal data traffic.
STOPPING The object is being stopped. The object is in the STOPPING state if its next
state is expected to be STOPPED. The summary state is changed to
STOPPED after all current operations have been completed; No new
operations are allowed at this point. For example, an MR group stops
accepting any new messages, but it waits for messages to be transferred
across an already open association with an adjacent MTA before shutting
down.
STOPPED The object is not ready for normal operations. STOPPED is equivalent to
down or not running.
SUSPENDED The APPL object is suspended. An object is in the SUSPENDED state if the
kind of information that is allowed to flow to and from the object is in some
way restricted. The effect of suspending an APPL object whose access type
is MS is that the APPL object receives a submission control message
disallowing message and probe submission after it binds to the MS. Any
messages bound for that APPL object result in a nondelivery notification
being returned. The only reason to suspend an APPL object is for deletion in
the future (allowing the MS APPL object to retrieve its messages already in
the message store, but not allowing any new messages to be submitted or
delivered).
Note: The processes of OSI/MHS run only in low PINs. If those processes will interact with processes that run
in high PINs—for instance, if a GPI or OSI/AS process runs in a high PIN—the high PIN process must be
named. For details on this and related topics, see the D-Series System Migration Planning Guide. For
information about running OSI/AS in a high PIN, see the OSI/AS Configuration and Management Manual.
