ADD APPL Command
By default, the value of all MS APPL message-retrieval attributes is ON. To save
message-store space, change the value to OFF for any message-retrieval attribute the
APPL object does not require.
Only the attributes that are currently specified as ON are stored in the mailbox for
that message. That is, if an MS APPL message-retrieval attribute is set to OFF, then
that attribute is not stored in the Message Store. If, at a later time, the attribute is set
to ON, any messages stored when it was OFF do not have this attribute available.
Filters will not find this attribute.
1988 systems define built-in integer values to identify encoded information types
(EITs) that were configured for APPL objects on 1984 systems.
When configuring EITs on an APPL object, you can only specify the built-in integer
definitions. Therefore all EITs that have counterparts in the 1984 definitions are
configured using their integer value; all other EITs are configured as external.
Do not configure the APPL duplicate suppression feature for generic MS APPL
objects.
For USER-PASSWORD, if the MS-BIND-PW-SVR attribute has been configured
for the APPL object’s MS group (that is, the ACCESS-NAME attribute), the
specified password is sent to the configured MS bind password server so that it can
validate and store the password. In this case, a NULL password is stored in the User
database. The MS bind password server is responsible for maintaining and
validating the password.
Note that a remote MS APPL object also can change the value of this password,
using the register-MS service.
