MULTIPLEX Attribute
The MULTIPLEX attribute allows multiple Transport Layer connections to use one
Network Layer connection. Multiplexing transport connections on a single X.25 line
makes more effective use of your network connections and reduces the overhead
involved in setting up a new connection (a ten-to-one multiplexing ratio is normally
effective). TSP subdevices having the same X.25 PVC number are always multiplexed
(they share the same X25AM subdevice, defined by the X25PVC attribute).
You should look carefully at the amount of traffic on the network connections: too
many transport connections multiplexed onto a network connection can overload the
network connection. This can cause excessive queuing for use of the line, which
degrades response time. See Section 5, OSI Transport Services
for more information on
multiplexing.
PASSIVEMUX Attribute
If you anticipate that the remote transport entity will multiplex the transport connections
(in other words, the incoming connections are directed to the same X.25 port or NSAP
address—local TSEL is not taken into account), set the PASSIVEMUX attribute to ON.
When this attribute is set to ON, the TSP process does not create separate X25AM
subdevices for each attaching TSP subdevice. This greatly reduces the number of
X25AM subdevices created each time connect attach requests are made. A new
X25AM subdevice is created for an attaching TSP subdevice only if there is no existing
X25AM subdevice previously created to support a TSP subdevice having the same local
network address (local NSAP or X.25 port) as the new TSP subdevice.
CONNECTTIMEOUT Attribute
The CONNECTTIMEOUT attribute defines the amount of time to wait for a response to
a CR-TPDU. If you set this value too high, indications of failed transport connections
could be delayed because the connection is unnecessarily tied up during the timeout
period. You should try to specify a time interval long enough to allow the CR-TPDU
and the CC-TPDU to traverse the communications line in both directions. The interval
should also be long enough for the various OSI layers to process the data, including
processing to set up the connection acceptance.
