OSI/TS Trace Facility
This section contains the following information:
•
An introduction to the OSI/TS trace facility
•
A description of the subsystem-specific PTrace commands
•
A sample of each type of trace record display
The OSI/TS trace facility helps you diagnose different problems that can occur in the
operation of Compaq OSI/TS processes. These problems can arise as a result of
problems between the Compaq system and other systems due to incompatibilities in OSI
stack implementations, incorrect configuration parameters, and so on.
The OSI/TS trace facility is made up of two parts:
•
the OSI/TS SCF TRACE command which collects trace information on disc, and
•
the PTrace commands that format, display, and examine the previously collected
trace information.
In addition to the using the OSI/TS trace facility, it may be necessary to trace the
activities of the lower layers to solve some problems. You may also need to use the
X25AM trace facility or the TLAM (for D-series, or PAM subsystems for G06 and
above releases) trace facility.
Deciding what you want to trace requires some knowledge of:
•
The OSI/TS process structures: The following few pages describe the OSI/TS
process structures.
•
OSI standards: Since OSI/TS implements several OSI International standards, the
format, content and order of trace records in a trace file will reflect those standards.
Depending on which trace records are being examined, knowledge of the structure
and content of OSI PDUs is necessary to fully understand the contents of the trace
file. The following OSI standards provide related information:
