General Description of SCF Interface
This manual describes the subsystem-specific details for using SCF to configure,
control, and inquire about the Compaq OSI/TS subsystem. SCF can be used as an
interactive interface to the OSI/TS subsystem.
The Subsystem Control Point (SCP) is required as the interface between SCF and the
OSI/TS subsystem. Transport service provider (TSP) processes can be started manually
from the command interpreter, programmatically with a Guardian procedure call, or
interactively using SCF. Subdevices are configured with SCF.
Note that when you use SCF to communicate directly with OSI/TS (that is, not through
OSI/AS), you do not need the OSI manager process.
Some subdevice characteristics can be changed dynamically by application programs
using the SETPARAM and SETMODE procedures. Note, however, that these calls
change subdevice attribute values as seen by that application only. To obtain the values
that have been set dynamically by your application, use the STATUS command which
shows the actual values of attributes. The INFO command displays permanently
configured values and does not reflect any changes made by SETPARAM or
SETMODE calls in your application program.
