OSM Migration and Configuration Guide—527273-021
1-7
TSM Coexistence and Fallback Considerations
Configure users and passwords in the OSM Low-Level Link (just as you did for the
TSM Low-Level Link).
Configure the OSM Notification Director to:
•
Configure onsite contact information
•
Configure how often the server generates periodic incident reports (IRs)
•
Configure dial-out (remote notification) or dial-in (remote access) capability
•
Specify a backup system console as secondary dial-out point
For details, refer to the OSM Notification Director online help and Section C,
Configuring Remote Services, or to documentation the GCSC Americas Hardware
Home Page (if using ISEE).
TSM Coexistence and Fallback Considerations
You can have both OSM and TSM software installed and (though not recommended)
running on your NonStop S-series servers and system consoles, as long as you take
into account these coexistence issues:
Check that only one Notification Director application is configured for dial-out, to
avoid duplicate dial-outs for the same problem.
Use the OSM Service Connection (instead of the TSM Service Application) for all
systems that are part of a ServerNet cluster. OSM suppresses generation of
alarms and dial-outs on all nodes in the cluster when service actions are performed
on a cluster from any node. This protection is not available if some nodes are
managed by TSM because TSM cannot communicate with OSM. Also, TSM does
not support the HP NonStop ServerNet Switch (model 6780) hardware used in
ServerNet clusters that are configured in a layered topology.
Do not perform simultaneous SP firmware updates with TSM and OSM.
If you have written tools to look for TSM events, change them to look for equivalent
OSM events.
For more information, see Coexistence Issues.
If you should need to fall back to using TSM, see Fallback to TSM. Keep in mind that
HP SIM, ISEE, and most new hardware introduced in G06.22 and later are not
supported by TSM.
While not required, if you want to completely uninstall TSM software from your system
console, see Section E, Uninstalling TSM.
