2 Preparing for OSM
This section describes how to prepare for migration to OSM software, including:

System Console Requirements
To run OSM software, your system console must meet these minimum requirements:
•
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, Microsoft Windows XP Professional, or
Windows 2003 Server operating systems. (Some optional add-ons, such as HP
Systems Insight Manager (SIM) and HP Instant Support Enterprise Edition (ISEE)
are not supported on Windows 2000.)
•
Minimum processor (Windows 2000 only): Pentium II, 350 MHz (processor speed),
with at least 256 MB of memory. However, see Additional System Console
Considerations to learn why moving to Windows XP and a more powerful system
console may be necessary to meet your operational needs.
•
Internet Explorer 6.0 is required for the browser-based OSM applications. It is
available, along with all other client software needed by OSM, from the HP
NonStop System Console Installer CD.
Additional System Console Considerations
HP recommends upgrading to Microsoft Windows XP Professional operating system
before migrating to OSM because:
•
OSM has increased memory requirements. Because the OSM Service Connection
invokes Java-based routines to display server status, OSM uses more PC memory
than TSM did. While 256 MB of memory is the absolute minimum, 512 MB or more
is usually necessary. Appendix B, Memory Guidelines for OSM, provides
guidelines to help you estimate how much PC memory you need to run OSM
(based on your system hardware).
•
As of G06.21, all new system consoles shipped by HP run only the Windows XP
operating system (and include 1024 MB of memory).
•
HP offers a Windows XP upgrade kit and also separate memory upgrades to help
existing consoles meet the increased memory requirements of OSM, but these
upgrades are only offered for PCs with a minimum processor speed of 500 MHz.
