OSM Service Connection User's Guide (G06.30+)

Runs the power-on self-test for the disk and tests the internal circuitry of the drive.
Validate Checksum
Scans the user data area of a disk for sector checksum errors. If the action fails, the Action Details
dialog box reports a sector checksum error and suggests that you spare the sector only if you believe
there is a drive media problem.
For additional information, use the OSM Event Viewer. Retrieve events using $ZLOG as the source
criteria and RAL as the subsystem criteria, and look for Disk-sector-failure events (event number
7001). In the event detail, a Sector-failure-count token shows how many sector checksum errors were
found, and a Disk-logical-sector token appears for each error, providing the logical address of that
failing sector.
You can perform the Validate Checksum action while the disk drive is in use.
External Disk Collection
Attributes
Actions
When one or more external disks are connected to a system, an External Disk Collection object
appears in both the tree pane and the overview pane of the OSM Service Connection. In both panes,
this object displays an alarm or yellow icon if alarms or degraded conditions exist on any of the
individual external disks contained within. You can expand the External Disk Collection icon in the
tree pane (but not in the overview pane) to select and monitor individual external disks.
