OSM Service Connection User's Guide (G06.32+)
Remote access and remote notification are not available in countries where the modem provided
by HP is not certified. In these countries, you cannot use OSM to dial out to or accept dial-in
communications from a service provider.
See also remote notification.
remote notification Remote notification, or dial-out, allows OSM to notify a service provider, such as the Global
Customer Support Center (GCSC), of pending hardware and software problems.
Remote access and remote notification are not available in countries where the modem provided
by HP is not certified. In these countries, you cannot use OSM to dial out to or accept dial in
communications from a service provider.
See also remote access, incident report, and notification.
remote switch An HP NonStop Cluster Switch (model 6770) or HP NonStop ServerNet Switch (model 6780)
in a ServerNet cluster that is not directly connected to the server that you are logged on to.The
OSM Service Connection cannot perform any actions on a remote switch. To perform actions
or get additional information on a remote switch, use the OSM Service Connection to log on to
a server that is directly connected to the switch.
reset To stop a processor or service processor (SP) and terminate all the processes running in it.
Resetting a processor does not affect any other processors in the system. Resetting an SP
does not affect any other SP in the system. Reset is a processor action available in the OSM
Service Connection.
resource A hardware component on the server or within a ServerNet cluster. Examples of resources are
system consoles, processors, memory, disk drives, and fabrics. In some instances, the term
resource includes software such as processes, files, and applications.
See also customer-replaceable unit (CRU) and field-replaceable unit (FRU).
S
SAL firmware System Abstraction Layer firmware that provides platform-specific low-level functions.
SANMAN Abbreviation for the external system area network manager process. A NonStop process that
provides management access to the external ServerNet fabrics.
SCSI plug-in card A plug-in card (PIC) for the 6760 ServerNet device adapter (ServerNet/DA) that uses a small
computer system interface (SCSI) interface to connect devices to a NonStop S-series system.
See also plug-in card (PIC).
SCSI ServerNet

controller (S-SAC)
A ServerNet addressable controller (SAC) that is contained within a small computer system
interface (SCSI) plug-in card (S-PIC).

emitter-coupled logic (ECL)-based ServerNet ports.
See also MSEB port.
serial copper

(IOMF) 2 customer-replaceable unit (CRU) that supports the serial copper interface.
serial
maintenance bus
(SMB)
A bus that connects service processors within an enclosure to each other and to the
customer-replaceable units (CRUs).
See also serial maintenance bus (SMB) domain and power domain.
serial
maintenance bus
(SMB) domain
The set of enclosures, modules, field-replaceable units (FRUs), and customer-replaceable units
(CRUs) connected by a common serial maintenance bus (SMB).
See also serial maintenance bus (SMB).
