OVNM 5.3 - Operations Agent for NonStop Console Guide

1 Console: An Introduction
Console is a software product that provides real-time and customized monitoring of events in
different states for your Enterprise. Console provides drill down, real-time and customized viewing of
event states. It allows proactive monitoring for mission critical systems and assures the competitive
edge necessary for your success. With an all-in-one group of Telnet, user applications and URLs,
Console provides a next generation approach to business critical issues.
1-1 What is Console?
The Console Windows GUI interface program provides a single interface for managing all aspect of
the OVNM environment running on HP NonStop Servers. Console is intended for NonStop Server
Application and System Specialist and provides similar Console management features found in HP
Operations Manager.
Console: An Introduction
Console is NOT intended to replace HP Operations Manager, but rather:
1. Provide a way for NonStop Server customers to evaluate the HP OVNM product without
requiring HP Operations Manager installed.
2. Provide an intermediate step, and greatly assists in the integration of NonStop Servers into an
existing Operations Manager Management Server.
3. Enable NonStop Server Application and System specialist to configure and test NonStop Object
thresholds setting before actually having the NonStop Servers integrated into the Operations
Manager production environment.
Within Console views, one can easily configure (in real-time) to have any NonStop EMS event sent to
HP Operations Manager. This is accomplished by simply selecting the desired EMS event within the
Console View and invoking the Send to OVO function. This function allows the user to associate the
EMS event with an HP Operations Manager Severity level, message group and Service Map.
Also, Console incorporates the same OVNM communication process that an HP Operations
Management Servers uses to communicate with OVNM Agents running on the NonStop Servers. This
allows the Console to appear to the NonStop Server as an HP Operations Management Server. In the
event of an outage between HP Operations Manager and the managed NonStop Servers, the
Console can be used to quickly determine whether OVNM is working correctly on the NonStop
Servers.
1-2 Features
Console provides an interactive and easy to use interface, which allows drill down and customized
viewing of event states. Some of the significant features of the software are as follows:
Event Search Facility
The new Console is introducing the Event Search Facility, designed to help the user to navigate
through the extensive list of NonStop events. The ability to be able to effectively search through the
list of events is critical for event management. The events can be searched on the basis of NODE
Name, SSID, Event Number, Process Name, Manager and Event Text. The resultant list of filtered event
messages can be sorted by a number of variables, like Severity, Generation time, Process, SSID, Event
number and Event text. The resultant list also allows the user to perform a number of actions using the
right-click menu. It allows both specific and generic searches of the NonStop events.
Enhanced User-Friendly Interface
The interface enhancements in the new Console GUI make it easier to use and more appealing to
work with. The interface has been redesigned, keeping simplicity and comfortable design as the main
requirements. The new GUI provides the end-user with an extensive ability to customize and
personalize the window to provide enhanced policy and windows management features.
Ability to Acknowledge Events
The Console now provides the facility to acknowledge events. It allows users to close events that
have either been resolved or which they choose to ignore. The user can add the reason for
acknowledging the event, which would be published with the event message along with the
additional detail and status.
