OVNM 5.3 - Operations Agent for NonStop Console Guide

3 Console: Concepts
3-1 Prerequisites
The prerequisites for using Console are as follows:
OVNM Backend Components Must be Running
In order to get information from the backend, the OVNM backend components must be up. Use the
following command to verify the status of the backend components. Switch over to the
volume.subvolume, where OVNM is installed before issuing the command.
$ABC.OVNM32>RUN STATOVNM
You need to start the backend components if they are not running. Use the Start Agent button in the
OVNM Host Management Client to start OVNM Agents.
Elink Should be Up and Running
Elink is the communication channel between the HP NonStop Host and the front-end. Elink must be
running for using the various features of Console. The Elink status can be checked using the
Application Log pane.

The status of Elink can also be verified using the NonStop Nodes Status window, which can be
accessed from Start/Programs/HP OVNM/NonStop Server Tools/NonStop Nodes Status option. You
can also be accessed NonStop Nodes Status window by clicking on the Node Status option under
OVNM Applications in the Management pane. A green icon next to the node name in the NonStop
Nodes Status window indicates that the connection is established with the remote HP NonStop Elink.
In case the remote HP NonStop Elink is not up, the icon will be seen in red. The red icon could also
indicate that the backend applications are not running.
