OVNM 5.3 - Operations Agent for NonStop Event Management Guide for Windows
HP Operations Manager Policies 34
4 HP Operations Manager Policies
4-1 Introduction
Policy can be defined as a set of one or more specifications and/or rules that help automate network and service
administration, and provide consistent automated administration across a network.
After installation, OVNM provides the default policies that can be used as-is to manage your HP NonStop
environment. The policy can be accessed using the HP Operations Manager interface. Deploying the default
policy to your managed nodes provides the fastest, simplest way for you to begin receiving data and messages
from the HP NonStop environment.
The default policies provided by OVNM can be categorized as:
1. Event Management Policy (OVNM-NonStop-Msgs): Policy pertaining to NonStop messages.
2. Object Management Policy (OVNM-OvMon-Msgs): Policy pertaining to OVNM monitored objects.

You can also create user-defined policies depending on your requirements. Various actions can be configured for
these policies that would allow formatting of event messages and triggering of automatic or operator-initiated
commands.
For more detailed, specific information from your managed services and nodes, you must configure your
environment by editing the existing policy or creating new policies to meet your special needs. After configuring
the policies, you deploy them to managed nodes and services.
In either case, you need to perform several steps to configure your console to report and display the performance
information and messages important to your enterprise operations.
