Configuring HP Operations Manager Services 48
7 Configuring HP Operations Manager Services
7-1 What are Service Models?
A service model is a representation of the relationship between components of a service.
In HP Operations Manager, service model is a convention for defining the components of a business function and
the components that support the business function. The service model defines these objects, their relationships,
and the rules that govern their status.
Service models correlate the knowledge and expertise of how to manage an application and apply this
knowledge to a service management solution such as HP Operations Manager.
7-2 What is a Service Hierarchy?
A service hierarchy is the ordered dependency relationships between services. The picture below shows a simple
service hierarchy.
Figure 7-1 Service Hierarchy Example
The top-level service is Systems Infrastructure. This service is dependent on two lower level services, Windows
and HP NonStop Servers, which in this case represent System Infrastructure services on two different platforms.
These services are dependent on other services, down to the lowest level services.
