5 Installing OVNM on HPOM UNIX
5-1 Introduction
This chapter describes how to install HP OVNM for the first time on the HP Operations Manager (HPOM) UNIX
Management Server.
To upgrade from an earlier OVNM version, refer to section Upgrading OVNM to a Newer Version.
Overview of Steps for Installing and Configuring OVNM on OVO (VPO) UNIX Server
1. FTP the appropriated OVNM depot .tar file from the HP OVNM product CD to the UNIX Server. Refer to
Obtaining the Appropriate OVNM Depot .tar File.
2. Install OVNM software using the swinstall utility (non-interactive).
Refer to the section titled Non Interactive Installation.
3. Configure OVNM.
Refer to the section Configuring OVNM on HPOM UNIX.
4. Deploy the NonStop Server policies on to HPOM Server and assign the responsibilities to the users for
NonStop messages using the OVO (VPO) opc utility.
Refer to the Configuring the HPOM Environment section for details.

5-2-1 Obtaining the Appropriate OVNM Depot.tar File
The following OVNM installation files are located in the HP OVNM product CD in the “OVNM for UNIX”
directory

FTP the appropriate depot tar file from the Windows PC to a temporary location on the UNIX Server.
NOTE:
The /
var/spool/sw
directory will be used as the Depot Location in all examples in this Chapter.
