Preface Before You Begin Before reading the documentation, you are expected to have a basic understanding of the Windows Operating System, as well as the HP NonStop environment. Familiarity with the HP NonStop Distributed Systems Management software, especially the Event Management Service, would be helpful. Audience This guide is intended for two types of users: • Administrators Plan, set up, and maintain OVNPM and HP Operations Manager.

1 About OVNPM This section introduces OVNPM and points out the advantages this product offers. 1-1 What is OVNPM? HP Performance Agent for NonStop (OVNPM) is the performance and capacity management solution for HP NonStop® Servers. OVNPM is used for real-time system monitoring, trending and in-depth analysis to solve performance problems. As a real-time and trend monitoring software, HP OVNPM provides rich features to manage HP NonStop servers.
1-2 What OVNPM Does? OVNPM is the leading performance and capacity management solution for the HP NonStop® system. OVNPM is used for real-time system monitoring, trending and in-depth analysis to solve performance problems. It allows trend analysis for daily production control and capacity planning.
1-3 Features As a real-time and trend monitoring software, OVNPM provides rich features to manage HP NonStop servers. Providing comprehensive and robust manageability features along with web browser support for monitoring critical events, OVNPM offers a highly flexible solution that allows measurement of your service level standards and planning for future business needs.
Configurable Views & Application-Specific Dashboards OVNPM provides predefined views and the ability to create user-defined views, which may contain production metrics collected over a selected time window, depending on your requirements. Dashboards provide the functionality to open and manage views and reports in various groups.
1-4 Benefits Some of the key benefits of OVNPM are: Increased Service Availability OVNPM brings information critical to managing Service Level Agreements on the HP NonStop system to the HP Operations environment. System availability and performance will be improved, as monitoring will highlight potential breaches in Service Level Agreements.
2 How OVNPM Works? This chapter describes the architecture, process flow and the components of OVNPM. 2-1 Consolidating Your Business Environment HP Operations Manager provides a complete management view of your enterprise, which include: • Enterprise Applications: Like ZLE business applications. • Infrastructure Applications: Like Web servers, Transaction servers and Database servers. • System Infrastructure: Like Resources, Hardware, Network and Security.

2-2 Architecture and Data Flow This section gives a brief overview of the architecture of OVNPM. The following figure shows the consolidated data flow between the HP NonStop environment and the Windows workstation or HP Operations management server provided by OVNPM. Figure 2-3 OVNPM Architecture The consolidated view provided by OVNPM architecture helps maximize the availability of the system and increase the productivity of your operations staff.
The Display Server process receives queries from the Display Agent GUI installed on the Windows workstation and sends them to the Database Server. The Display Server is also responsible for receiving responses from the Database Server and forwarding them to the Display Agent. The Display Agent then displays the information to the user. The Navigator is the web-based interface of OVNPM, which is used for real-time monitoring of HP Nonstop objects.
The OVNPM Reporter Agent is integrated with the HP Operations Manager Reporter to provide trend analysis reports for the HP NonStop objects. The GatherNSK gathers data for creating pre-canned reports from the Trend database on the HP NonStop Server. The GatherNSK can be configured using the GatherNSK Configuration Client. The Data Analyzer provide wrapper for OVNPM databases. Simply select your data source, choose the elements and timeframes you wish to view, and select the visual representation (Chart, Grid, Graph, etc.) and your poweruser dashlets are displayed. Just drag and drop your data and start generating meaningful reports on your system.
