1-2 What OVNPM Does?
OVNPM is the leading performance and capacity management solution for the HP NonStop® system. OVNPM is
used for real-time system monitoring, trending and in-depth analysis to solve performance problems. It allows
trend analysis for daily production control and capacity planning.
By providing Operations, Systems Support, Application Support and Management with direct access to
production information, OVNPM supports four Production Quality Processes:
 Real-Time Supervision
OVNPM dashboards and alarms permit immediate reactions to production problems that have just
occurred, before service degradation occurs.
 In-Depth Analysis
OVNPM drill-down features (on real-time or replay information) enable system support to investigate
production anomalies and eliminate recurring incidents by pinpointing their causes.
 Daily Production Control
OVNPM resource consumption profiles allow continuous improvement of production quality and an
increase in service levels. OVNPM's Load Balancing module can also assist in system tuning for continuous
improvement in availability and response times.
 Trend Analysis
OVNPM reports on business and production trends permit high level management to gain control over
change and optimize the return on investment.

It also provides a broad range of capabilities, including a replay for after-the-fact troubleshooting, complex
alarms management with multi-criteria thresholds, automated load balancing, automated performance events
correlation, and a user-defined interface for direct application monitoring.
With the help of a user-friendly interface, OVNPM allows real-time monitoring of critical events along with the
flexibility to configure alerts, views, reports and dashboards.
The OVNPM interface offers the ability to:
• Replay the collected data to determine what actually caused a specific spike in resource consumption
• Monitor node activities through multiple time frames
• View detailed performance monitoring data in real-time
• Create customized dashboards and views
• Create trend reports
The ability to replay mission critical events allows you to research events that happened in the past. Using this
feature you can rewind to the problem time period and analyze all the activities that were occurring at that time.
OVNPM’s intuitive graphical interface displays collected and stored performance metrics and information about
busiest processes, enabling you to quickly and efficiently detect root causes of system or application faults.
For OVNPM, the system overhead is independent from user activity, enabling groups with different technical skill
levels to access it simultaneously, with negligible system overheads.
OVNPM is integrated into the HP Operations Manager Reporter environment to provide pre-canned web-based
reports for the HP NonStop environment. This tight integration gives organizations a cost-efficient, easily
configurable, and time saving way to rapidly and successfully incorporate the NonStop environment into their
service delivery and monitoring infrastructure.
