OVNPM 1.5.2 - Performance Agent for NonStop Server Management Guide

OVNPM Management Overview 11
1 OVNPM Management Overview
This guide provides an overview of the various procedures involved in installing the OVNPM. The chapter also
lists the software and hardware prerequisites that you must fulfill for the HP NonStop Server and the Windows
workstation, before you install OVNPM.
This manual explains how to install, configure, and manage OVNPM application and processes on the NonStop
Host. It also describes the OVNPM Server architecture.
Installation process creates a basic monitoring configuration. This configuration contains the obvious entities to
monitor on the NonStop host. To create a monitoring configuration related to your NonStop applications refers to
the OVNPM Server Monitoring Guide.
1-1 Overview
OVNPM is the leading performance and capacity management solution for the HP NonStop® system. OVNPM is
used for real-time system monitoring, trending, and in-depth analysis to solve performance problems. It allows
trend analysis for daily production control and capacity planning.
Installation defines the OVNPM Environment on the HP NonStop Server. Installation is achieved by the Host
Installation Client GUI. The Host Installation Client can manage OVNPM environment on one or several hosts.
This section lists and describes the OVNPM installation in various environments.
1-1-1 Microsoft Windows Environment
The installation on a Windows workstation primarily involves the installation of following components.
OVNPM Host Installation Client
The OVNPM Host Installation Client is an interactive GUI, which is used to automate the procedures
like installation and modifications on the HP NonStop managed node.
OVNPM Host Management Client
The OVNPM Host Management Client is an interactive GUI, which is used to automate the HP NonStop
host management procedures like starting and stopping OVNPM agents on the HP NonStop Server.
OVNPM Display Agent
The Display Agent is the Windows-based GUI of OVNPM. The Display Agent requests information from
the OVNPM components on the NonStop Server to satisfy end-user requests and then displays this
information in an organized and meaningful way.
Navigator
The Navigator browser interface provides real-time performance information. The browser interface can
easily be integrated into the OVO Operation environment, providing an easy way for OVO operators
Reporter
The OVNPM Reporter Agent provides trend analysis through seamless integration with HP OV Reporter
for the HP Nonstop Server.
1-1-2 HP NonStop Environment
OVNPM installation on the HP NonStop Managed node involves the installation of OVNPM NonStop Server
components. These components are responsible for collecting information from the Nonstop Server and storing it
in OVNPM databases. The Server component receives Display Agent queries, checks them, and submits them to
the Database Server.
The installation on the HP NonStop can be performed through Windows based OVNPM Host Installation Client.
For details on how to install OVNPM components on the HP NonStop environment, refer to Chapter 3: OVNPM
Server GUI-based Installation.
