OVNPM 1.5.2 - Performance Agent for NonStop Server Monitoring Guide

Preparing an Initial List of Units
The first time you use this dialog box, enter A (Automatic). OVNPM scans your system, builds an initial list of
physical units, creates a USERCFG file, and saves the list in the file.
This routine is normally used only once.
If you select the automatic option and an existing USERCFG file is found, you are asked if you want to continue.
If you answer yes, the existing file is renamed and a new USERCFG file is created excluding any previous
changes.
Modifying the List of Units
You can edit the USERCFG file to remove units you do not want to monitor, change trend flag status, or add
additional units.
NOTE:
After you have edited the USERCFG file, do not run the automatic option as it will recreate the file
without any changes you have made.
To edit the USERCFG file, enter E (Edit Manually). OVNPM automatically opens an edit session for you.
Use the following guidelines to edit the file:
Entities are stored in the USERCFG file by domain type.
Each domain type has a unique syntax for its units. The syntax is described in comments preceding
each domain type. Entries must follow the appropriate syntax.
To review the syntax for all USERCFG units, enter S (Syntax) in the dialog box instead of editing the
file.
Each unit has a Trend Flag. If the flag is on, SystemTrend data is collected. If the flag is off,
SystemTrend data is not collected and the unit is excluded from trend analysis reporting.
The maximum number of units per domain is 4000.
The maximum number of units for monitoring is 4000.
Building the Configuration
To build the OVNPM configuration, select the Build configuration option from the installation menu. OVNPM
automatically executes the Configuration Builder. If it encounters any problems, it issues appropriate error
messages.
Estimating the Database Size (Optional)
Select this option to display an estimate of the size of the collection database.
Figure 1 Estimation of Database Size
This is an example of an estimation of the database size. It shows the division by domain type and OVNPM
module.
