Distributed Systems Management (DSM)
Distributed Systems Management (DSM). A set of products that supports the integrated
management of system and network resources and operation. DSM products include the
Subsystem Programmatic Interface (SPI), the Event Management Service (EMS), the
Distributed Name Service (DNS), the DSM Template Services, and the Subsystem
Control Facility (SCF) for data communications subsystems.
E4SA. See Ethernet 4 ServerNet adapter (E4SA)
.
EMS. See Event Management Service (EMS)
.
Ethernet 4 ServerNet adapter (E4SA). A ServerNet adapter that provides flexible and
efficient connectivity between Himalaya S-series servers and Ethernet 802.3 local area
networks (LANs). It features 4 ports per board, with each port supporting
communications speeds of 10 megabits per second.
event. A significant change in some condition in the system or network. Events can be
operational errors, notifications of limits exceeded, requests for action needed, and so
on.
Event Management Service (EMS). A part of DSM used to provide event collection, event
logging, and event distribution facilities. It provides for different event descriptions for
interactive and programmatic interfaces, lets an operator or application select specific
event-message data, and allows for flexible distribution of event messages within a
system or network. EMS has a Subsystem Programmatic Interface (SPI)-based
programmatic interface for both reporting and retrieving events.
file-system access point (FSAP). The access point used by network communications
applications and management applications.
fixed data. The data in an output field of a panel that cannot change when the panel is
displayed.
FSAP. See file-system access point (FSAP)
.
HELP command. An SCF command that displays information about commands and objects
used to manage the PAM subsystem.
INFO command. A nonsensitive SCF and SPI command that displays the current or default
attributes of the specified object.
interactive input. Interactive input from a terminal is characterized by the entry of a
command followed by a carriage return. When a process is used for both input and
output, the SCF waits for the process to send a request and treats the process in the same
manner as a terminal.
LINE object. Used to define a line. The LINE object controls the physical link to a local
area network (LAN) provided by an adapter such as the Ethernet 4 ServerNet adapter
(E4SA) or the Token-Ring ServerNet adapter (TRSA). The name of the LINE object
and the PROCESS object is always the same and represents the access to a logical
interface (LIF).
