The PAM Subsystem’s Role Within the System
The event-management activities shown in Figure 1-2 occur as follows:
1. The PAM process reports the event by sending an event message to the local EMS
event collector.
2. The EMS event collector sends the event message to the EMS event log.
3. The application opens an EMS consumer distributor and requests an event message.
4. The distributor reads the log and returns to the application the next event message
that satisfies the conditions of the filter. (An application installs an EMS filter that
specifies the event messages that the application wants to receive.)
PAM Manager (PAMMAN) Process
The PAMMAN process, $ZZPAM, is a process pair that provides the interface between
the PAM subsystem and the Subsystem Control Point (SCP) process. The SCP process is
required for management of the PAM subsystem. The SCP process is used by the SCF
interactive interface as well as by management applications.
$ZZPAM directs control-and-inquiry commands to the PAM process and forwards
responses from the PAM process back to the requesting user or application. Figure 1-3
shows how SCF and management applications communicate with $ZZPAM through the
SCP process and how $ZZPAM, in turn, communications with the PAM process.
