Subsystem Control Facility
Subsystem Control Facility. A subsystem used to issue configuration and information
requests between the user and some communications subsystems.
Subsystem Control Point. The management process for all Tandem data communications
subsystems.
SUPER ID. A user who can read, write, execute, and purge most files on the system. A
super-group user is usually a member of a system-supervisor group. Members of the
super group have group ID 255.
timestamp. An identifier that indicates when a file was created or modified.
token ring. (1)The token access procedure used on a network with a sequential or ring
topology. (2) A data link level protocol designed to transfer data over ring-oriented
LANs. The token ring technique is based on the use of a particular bit pattern called a
“token” that circulates around the ring when all stations are idle.
token ring LAN A network in which computers are connected in a ring-shaped layout
(topology) and in which the right to transmit data is defined by possession of a token. A
station that is finished transmitting or that does not wish to transmit passes the token
along to the adjacent station on the ring. The station that wants to transmit seizes the
token by changing one bit in the token, transmits its data, then releases the token to
allow other stations to transmit. While IBM introduced token ring LANs, they are now
supported by many major LAN vendors. The IEEE standard version of token ring is
referred to as recommendation 802.5.
Token Ring ServerNet adapter (TRSA). A ServerNet adapter for token ring that contains
four token-ring ports.
TRACE. A sensitive SCF command that requests the capture of selected data items, alters
trace parameters, and ends tracing. An SCF trace produces a trace file that can be
displayed using the commands available in the PTrace program. Use of SCF trace by a
subsystem is optional; a subsystem can supply its own tracing method.
TRSA. See Token Ring ServerNet adapter (TRSA)
.
VERSION. A nonsensitive SCF command that reports the version of the subsystem server,
and possibly additional version information about objects defined by the subsystem. All
Tandem subsystems have a VERSION command.
wildcard character. A character that can represent or match more than one character. You
can use wild cards in patterns to search for specific text patterns; for example, all the
words that end with “ing.”
$ZZLAN. See LAN manager (LANMAN) process
.
