Tasks
The remainder of this section explains the details you need to understand when you
use the Pathmaker product to create requesters. The topics include:
Defining requesters—Lists and describes the basic steps you need to take to define
a requester. If you want to see a detailed step-by-step example of requester
definition, refer to Section 10.
Controlling default screen layout—Describes how you can change the appearance
of the default screen that the Pathmaker product creates.
Specifying CALL and SEND parameters—Describes the steps for creating CALL
and SEND parameters and explains how parameters are mapped from requester
to requester and from requester to service.
Generating requesters—Describes the two phases of requester generation and
explains what files the Pathmaker product uses to generate a requester. You can
modify several of these files to create a requester tailored to your own
requirements.
Creating DB requester applications—Explains when and how to create a DB
requester application, how to link records or tables in a DB requester that accesses
more than one file, and what the application you create looks like.
Creating requesters for 3270 terminals—Shows you how the 16-function-key
Tandem keyboard maps to the 12-function-key 3270 keyboard. This section is
included for application developers who want to create Pathmaker applications
that run on 3270 type terminals.
Creating requesters for Kanji terminals—Discusses special considerations that you
need to be aware of when creating Pathmaker requesters that will be run on Kanji
terminals.
Defining Requesters No matter how simple a Pathmaker application you are creating, you must define and
generate requesters. After you have designed the database and overall screen
presentation, you create a requester by following the basic steps outlined here.
1. Specify the requester name, requester type, and title.
2. Add or copy a requester.
3. Add reference objects.
4. Write the requester description for online help.
5. Specify default screen layout.
a. Define the functions to be performed by the function keys and the prompt text
for each one.
b. Reorder or delete displayed data fields (optional).
c. Specify data field attributes.
