Creating Requesters
067868 Tandem Computers Incorporated 5–21
You can change the terminal type of an existing requester. If you change the terminal
type, the Pathmaker product automatically remaps any function keys you assigned.
Refer to “Creating Requesters for 3270 Terminals” later in this section for further
information about equivalent function key assignments for 6520/6530 terminals and
3270 terminals.
Note If you change the terminal type from 6520/6530 to 3270 and then from 3270 to 6520/6530, the resulting
function key assignments might not be identical to the original function key assignments.
Title. You can specify a requester title on the Requester Definition screen. Requester
titles apply to MENU and TRNS requesters.
You can use the requester title field on the Requester Definition screen to enter the text
to be shown at the top of the default screen. The title can be any printable characters,
up to 60 characters. Any characters after the 40th character are shown on the default
screen but not on the Requester Value List screen.
Function Keys and Function Key Prompts. You can use the Display Text screen to specify
which function keys are to be displayed and what prompt text is to be associated with
them. You can also use this screen to write the help text to be associated with each
function key. The information that you specify on the Display Text screen can apply to
MENU or TRNS requesters.
Requester Type. You can use the Requester Definition screen to specify the type of
requester you are creating. You must specify a requester type for every Pathmaker
requester. After you have added a requester, you cannot change its type.
Valid requester types are:
DB Database requesters use a predefined set of services to perform basic
operations such as reading, inserting, deleting, or updating records from one
or more database files.
MENU Menu requesters navigate to other requesters.
REG Registered requesters are coded outside of the Pathmaker environment; they
are not generated as part of the current project.
TRNS Transaction requesters accept data from the keyboard and invoke custom
services to process the data.
MENU Requester Application Screens. MENU requesters display an application screen
composed of a list of function keys; the end user presses the appropriate function key
to navigate to the desired screen. Figure 5-4 shows an example of a MENU requester.
